The cemetery was probably established in 1886 (or 1892) on the site of the former cemetery for cholera victims. The necropolis was built on an elongated rectangular plan, with an entrance gate and a funeral home functioning to this day.
The period of the Second World War brought about the destruction and devastation of the cemetery, which deepened in the years of the Polish People's Republic. One of the streets where to this day are under poured asphalt was made from the tombstones of the cemetery.
Currently, the cemetery is developed and managed by the Jewish Community in Katowice.
